Giovanni Sforza diede a Gradara un forte impulso di innovazione artistica e soprattutto architettonica come da un’iscrizione sul ponte levatoio della Rocca in cui, oltre al committente, è citata la data di svolgimento dei lavori del 1494. Gli interventi, che arricchirono la nobile residenza immersa nel verde dei colli marchigiani, furono probabilmente realizzati per accogliere Lucrezia Borgia, giovanissima ed illustre sposa del Conte. La rocca è anche conosciuta per una stanza con affreschi mitologici nota come la “Sala di Lucrezia”, sebbene non sia del tutto chiaro se tale ambiente fosse stato creato per lei.

Giovanni Sforza gave Gradara a strong impetus for artistic and, above all, architectural innovation, as evidenced by an inscription on the drawbridge of the fortress, which not only names the patron but also mentions the date of the works, 1494. The works, which enriched the noble residence nestled in the green hills of Marche region, were likely carried out to welcome Lucrezia Borgia, the Count’s young and illustrious wife. The fortress is also known for a room with mythological frescoes known as the “Hall of Lucrezia,” although it is unclear whether this room was created for her.
