TRAVEL DIARY…

destination Östersund and surroundings

.

April 22, 2015 Departure

Our destination is Östersund, the main town in the County of Jämtland … from Rome to Stockholm and still with a domestic flight to land at the airport in the late evening of Åre Östersund, 500 kilometers further north … going towards the light in the North … waiting for us the coordinator Bodil Johansson Henriksson.

The reception was beyond all our rosiest expectations, confirming in full all the information we had collected about the character and style of the Swedes Jamts (ie resident or native of Jämtland)

… Just as in Italy, even Sweden is characterized by social and cultural specifics of the different counties. It seems that the population of Jämtland has a particularly cheerful character, as well as historically appreciated for being very hospitable. Before the railroad reached even the most remote and rural areas, during the summer, the farmers and ranchers were preparing for their usual travel was transhumance … cattle, cows and goats were moved …from the farm in the plain to the summer house higher up, or in the woods, where there is a good pasture.

They left but … the doors of their homes remained unlocked and the table laid for travelers who were found to pass even during their absence.

In addition to being cheerful and welcoming the Jamts have always been considered experienced travelers, enterprising and tenacious. The local and national history shows the chronicles of their travels and markets in Levanger in Norway and Gregorius that took place on the island of Frösön on Lake Storsjön.Their journeys were real expeditions well organized and no one was traveling alone … Just think that in the eighteenth century, when the population in Jamtland was up to 20 000 inhabitants, more than 1000 Jamts were present at the Marsimartnan/ Market in March in Levanger in Norway (Marsimartnan) The trips were organized during the winter, when the passage from Sweden to Norway was more accessible (as marshes, lakes and ponds were frozen). During periods of absence the women managed the family and the properties.

1. EXPECTED RESULTS FOR THE STAFF INVOLVED IN THE MOBILITY

OBJECTIVE 1

  • Increased understanding and capacity to respond to the social, linguistic and cultural diversity • Improvement of language skills

1.1 THE QUESTIONS

  • Promotion of learning throughout the life of the person: what kind of learning?
  • What key skills encourage the relationship and interaction between construction of existential meaning and motivation?
  • How important is the construction of a perspective of existential meaning for the individual in the development of learning skills and the design process of their education and training?
  • What role can the heritage education play for the promotion and development of cultural competencies?

The work program agreed with Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan SV Jämtland Östersund was marked by a proposal particularly rich in opportunities for exchange and discussion, starting from a number of visits to associations and cultural organizations working in the field of adult education and culture .

Knowing the specifics, was only the first step towards intercepting and understanding the single thread, the shared mission which can be summarized in the slogan

LÄR E J FӦR SKOLAN UTAN FӦR LIVET! …

scuola                                                                                                           YOU DO NOT LEARN FOR SCHOOL BUT FOR LIFE!

In this perspective, there are four key skills that best characterize educational and cultural proposals in the non-formal and informal contests, meeting the general characteristics of the person

  • Field  of learning to learn
  • Field of interpersonal and civic competences
  • Field of entrepreneurship
  • Field  of cultural expression

2. THE ROLE OF HERITAGE PEDAGOGY AS METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH

Job shadowing activities have been a valuable opportunity of learning by doing as possible to learn and experiment how heritage education is an active pedagogy, based on the discovery that involves direct experience and research in the field, on the materials, sources, crafts heritage , in a pedagogical process that starts from the emotion and the approach sensory, it develops creativity, aesthetic sensitivity and critical spirit. A pedagogy that, using all the senses and all languages, promotes the inclusion against exclusion; is transverse to the disciplines, but strengthens them; based on a close relationship between culture and education.

It was the occasion for an intercultural approach valuable and innovative where the heritage which often enhances the aspect “identitarian”, becomes the bearer of a plural identity given of exchanges, of stratifications, from the meeting of different cultural influences.

REFLECTION 1

Collaborating with the Swedish team, the first thing we’ve learned is that, in the County of Jämtland, the responsibility of the cultural and heritage identity (tangible and intangible) assume a fundamental dimension. They are the focus of many cultural and educational programs for adults.

Cultural heritage is the core around which you can promote and develop the motivation to get involved in the life and management of its land area, assuming at first hand the social and civil responsibility.

We had the opportunity to participate in a cultural afternoon in Lit, organized in collaboration with Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan Lit and Svenskakyrkan Häggenås-Lit-Kyrkås. Particularly interesting was the contribution of Margaretha Jonsson, an expert on local history and religious culture. Thank you for your availability to the publication of the text and to expressing the will, together with the other members of the Swedish team , of continuing to work together …
